How to test your keyboard
- Press each key on your keyboard one by one.
- Keys you have pressed turn green; keys being held are highlighted.
- Any key that never lights up may be broken or need cleaning.
Finding faulty keys
Press each key and watch it light up on the layout. Keys that never light up, light up twice or stay stuck point to hardware or driver problems.
Ghosting and rollover
Hold several keys at once to test n-key rollover. Gaming keyboards register many keys at once; cheaper ones may miss some combinations.
Before replacing a keyboard
Try cleaning under the keycap, a different USB port and another computer. Liquid damage often affects groups of nearby keys.
Frequently asked questions
What is keyboard ghosting?
When some combinations of keys held at once are not registered. Hold several keys together and see if all of them light up.
Why don't some keys light up?
Some keys such as Fn, Print Screen or media keys are handled by the system and never reach the browser.
Does it work with any layout?
Yes. The tester uses physical key positions, so any language layout works; the labels show a US layout.
Is anything I type recorded?
No. Key presses are only shown on this page and nothing is sent anywhere.
