How the CPS test works
- Choose a test length.
- Click the box as fast as you can β the timer starts on your first click.
- When time is up, your clicks per second are shown.
Measuring clicks per second
Click as fast as you can for the chosen time; your clicks divided by the seconds give your CPS. Longer tests show your endurance, short ones your burst speed.
Clicking techniques
Regular clicking reaches about 6β8 CPS. Jitter clicking uses arm tension to vibrate the finger, and butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on one button for 10β15 CPS or more.
Look after your hands
Fast clicking strains the wrist and forearm. Warm up, take breaks and stop if you feel pain.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good CPS?
Most people click 6 to 7 times per second. 8 to 10 CPS is fast, and jitter or butterfly clicking can reach 12 or more.
What is jitter clicking?
Tensing your arm so your finger vibrates on the mouse button. It is fast but tiring, so take breaks.
What is butterfly clicking?
Alternating two fingers on the same mouse button, which can register more clicks per second than one finger.
Can I use a touchscreen?
Yes. Taps count as clicks, so you can test on a phone or tablet too.
