Frequently asked questions
What makes a password strong?
Length and randomness. A random 16-character password using all character types has over 100 bits of entropy, far beyond what can be guessed.
Is it safe to generate a password online?
This page creates passwords in your browser with a cryptographic random number generator. They are never sent to a server or saved.
Why avoid look-alike characters?
0 and O or 1, l and I are easy to confuse when you read or type a password by hand. Turning them off makes passwords easier to copy manually.
Should I reuse a password?
No. Use a different password for every account and keep them in a password manager, so one leak does not expose the others.
