Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between APA, MLA and Chicago?

APA is common in social sciences and puts the year right after the authors. MLA is used in humanities and puts the date near the end. Chicago is common in history and publishing.

Where do I find a DOI?

It is usually printed on the first page of a journal article or on the article’s web page, and looks like 10.1000/xyz123.

Will italics stay when I paste into Word or Google Docs?

Yes. The reference is copied as formatted text, so titles and journal names stay in italics.

Is my reference list saved?

It is kept in this browser only, so it is still there when you come back.
