How to calculate your GPA
- Pick your grading scale. Letter scales use credit-weighted grade points; numeric scales average your marks by credits or coefficients.
- Add each course with its credits and grade. Pass/fail courses (P/NP) count toward credits earned but not the GPA.
- Enter your previous GPA and credits to get your cumulative GPA, or a target to see the average you still need.
Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Each grade is turned into grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0…), multiplied by the course credits, added up and divided by the total credits.
Does an A+ count as 4.3?
On a standard 4.0 scale an A+ counts as 4.0. Some schools use 4.3 for A+; choose the 4.3 scale if yours does.
How do I convert GPA to another scale?
A simple proportional conversion is GPA ÷ your scale × the new scale, e.g. 3.6 / 4.0 × 4.5 = 4.05. Many schools and employers publish their own tables, so check if one applies.
