Tips for an accepted photo

  • Plain white or light background, no shadows behind you.
  • Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression and both eyes open.
  • No glasses glare, no hats; hair should not cover your face.
  • Use daylight from the front or have someone else take the photo from about 1.5 m away.
  • Always check the latest rules of the authority you apply to.

How to make a passport photo

  1. Choose the country and document. The size and head-height guides change to match.
  2. Add a photo and drag, zoom and straighten it until your head fits the guides.
  3. Download the single photo for online applications, or a 4×6 or A4 sheet with several copies to print.

Frequently asked questions

Will my photo be accepted?

The sizes and head guides follow each country’s published rules, but the authority decides. Lighting, background and expression matter as much as the crop.

How do I print it at the right size?

The files are saved at 300 dpi. Print the sheet at 100% (actual size) — a 4×6 print at a kiosk or online lab gives you several photos at once.

Can I use it for online applications?

Yes. Download the single photo; it is a high-resolution JPEG at the exact proportions of the document.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Cropping and printing layouts are created in your browser.
