Why convert SVG to WebP?
WebP keeps transparency like PNG at a much smaller size, which is handy for websites and apps that cannot display SVG.
About the formats
- SVG
- SVG is a vector format: shapes are stored as math, so logos and icons stay sharp at any size and files are tiny. Many apps, social networks and office tools cannot use SVG, though.
- WebP
- WebP is a modern web format by Google. It is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and supports transparency. All current browsers support it.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.
Is there a limit on file size or number of images?
There is no fixed limit. Very large images or big batches depend on your device’s memory, so on a phone it is best to convert a few dozen at a time.
Does converting remove photo metadata?
Yes. The new file contains only the image, so location data and camera details (EXIF) are removed — useful before sharing photos online.
What quality should I choose?
For photos, 75–85% is almost indistinguishable from the original while being much smaller. Use 90% or higher for printing, and 60–70% when file size matters most.
