Why convert AVIF to JPG?

Images saved from modern websites are often AVIF, which many photo editors, office apps and upload forms can’t open. JPG works everywhere.

About the formats

AVIF
AVIF is a new image format that is even smaller than WebP at the same quality. Modern browsers support it, but many editors, apps and older devices can’t open it yet.
JPG
JPG is the most widely supported photo format. It uses lossy compression, which makes photos small, but it has no transparency.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.

Is there a limit on file size or number of images?

There is no fixed limit. Very large images or big batches depend on your device’s memory, so on a phone it is best to convert a few dozen at a time.

Does converting remove photo metadata?

Yes. The new file contains only the image, so location data and camera details (EXIF) are removed — useful before sharing photos online.

What quality should I choose?

For photos, 75–85% is almost indistinguishable from the original while being much smaller. Use 90% or higher for printing, and 60–70% when file size matters most.
